How telehealth prescribing works in California
California permits licensed physicians to establish a patient relationship and prescribe non-controlled medications like GLP-1s through synchronous video or store-and-forward review, provided the standard of care is met.
California requires any provider writing a prescription to a California resident to hold an active California medical license — an out-of-state license is not enough. Every Pallas clinician who treats California patients is independently licensed by the Medical Board of California and practices within its telehealth guidance, which permits establishing the provider-patient relationship over video or through secure asynchronous review when the standard of care can be met. You'll complete a detailed intake, and depending on your history a provider may follow up by message, video, or request additional labs before prescribing. GLP-1s are not controlled substances, so California's stricter controlled-substance telemedicine rules do not apply, but our providers still document a complete history, review contraindications, and arrange follow-up check-ins to monitor response and side effects.

Limited coverage
Medi-Cal generally covers FDA-approved GLP-1s for type 2 diabetes. Coverage for weight-loss indications such as Wegovy® typically requires prior authorization and documented medical necessity; non-FDA-approved compounded products are not covered.
Pallas is a cash-pay telehealth service. Medicaid and private insurance do not apply to our prescriptions; pricing is flat and disclosed up front.

FAQ
California GLP-1 questions
Yes. California law allows a licensed California provider to establish a patient relationship and prescribe non-controlled medications like semaglutide through telehealth, including asynchronous review of your intake, as long as the standard of care is met. You do not need a prior in-person visit.
Medi-Cal covers FDA-approved GLP-1s for type 2 diabetes and, in some cases, for weight management with prior authorization and documentation of medical necessity. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not covered by Medi-Cal. Pallas is a cash-pay service, so Medi-Cal coverage does not apply to our prescriptions.
Yes. Compounded semaglutide prescribed by a licensed California provider and dispensed by a licensed compounding pharmacy is legal when prepared for an individual patient based on a specific clinical need. Pallas only works with U.S. state-licensed 503A and 503B compounding pharmacies that meet these requirements.
Once your provider writes the prescription, the pharmacy typically ships within 1–2 business days and delivery to any California address takes another 2–3 business days. Most California patients receive their first vial within a week of finishing intake.
